Gettin' Thrifty With It

Gettin' Thrifty With It

I remember the day when shopping at GoodWill wasn’t so trendy. And I am ashamed to admit it, but I used to be a bit of a thrifting snob. But we’re in a new wave of clothing trends and funky thrift additions to your closet are more than welcome. I, for one, am all for it these days and my coolest pieces are from thrift stores in my area! Your wallet will thank you, the environment will thank you, and you’ll always have on an outfit that no one else will be wearing!

Much of the fast-fashion industry is extremely harmful to the environment, with thousands upon thousands of fabric scraps going to waste. 20,000 liters of water go into the production of one kilogram of cotton, which is enough to make one t-shirt and one pair of jeans. In order to lessen this massive waste, we can each add a few pairs of thrifted or hand-me-down jeans to our closets, sending a “thank-you” to our earth! Flea markets are also a great place to get fun vintage clothes and re-love them!

I love when people ask me where I get my clothes and I can say that I found them for $3 at a thrift store somewhere! It nearly guarantees that I have on a unique outfit that you won’t be able to find at Forever21. I’ve even found Free People at thrift stores. Sifting through the racks is so rewarding when you find a diamond in the rough! My mom will sometimes ask me what I found and when I show her my items, she’ll laugh and say that she had the exact pair of shorts or knit tank top when she was my age. It’s so interesting that each item has a story that we can’t even guess! Maybe that pair of mom jeans actually is my "mom’s jeans". How wild is that!

So get to it! Go out and start searching for some amazingly funky and unique pieces to spice up your closet. You never know what you’ll find!
